We took the dogs out to the church land today for a little bit of play.

I have been out of practice and out of “motivation” for a long time. Motivation is such an easy excuse for doing or not doing something. I think on the negative end it’s bull. Be honest with yourself. Why did you not exercise? “I wasn’t feeling motivated today” No, you were feeling lazy (I raise my hand to this one). The thing of it is – I think we are afraid of people judging us. Disappointment. Ugh. That word just makes me cringe. A statement of reason has less of a pathetic undertone if you use the word motivated (albeit only slightly less).

For me the two big areas I seem to be slacking in these days are exercise and photography. I have been thinking about the photography slack for weeks now and each day brings a new realization. Not quite lightbulb, world changing moments but for my small piece of the world it helps. Who says you have to make a big production of packing up your gear, getting in your car, and driving somewhere? Photographs are what you make of them. Whether it be an awe inspiring sunset or the light filtering through your bedroom window. Just pick up the camera already. What about the thousands of pictures you have already taken? I am teaching myself new editing/post-processing techniques inspired by photographs I have seen elsewhere. There are pictures on my hard drive that I would have ignored in the past but now I play. Play Play Play.

Next time find yourself lacking motivation just ask yourself what would motivate you? As my sister would say “Quitcherbitchin”

On another only slightly related note. My pictures. Some of them are candid some are an artistic interpretation of what I saw. I post what I like but would like to hope that other people see something in my photographs. Something that makes them smile or think or wonder or remember. That is my goal. That or KC was being silly.

February 4, 2009 @ my parents house

My dad decided he wanted to pick up the trombone again. He played it when he was in high school. He picked it up and blew – it made a noise. I’m not sure about music but it definitely made a noise.

Hunter and I went hiking/geocaching on this fine day back in 2009. This day was momentous (that word is full of grandeur isn’t it?) because it was the day I started doing POTD (photo of the day)(for a year) which led me to starting a blog which led me to getting a website which led me into a year of pictures which led my camera towards minor destruction (fizzled shutter release) which led to a better camera which led to not much yet. And yes, I suck at grammar and sentence structure.

And the point of this post on Touch is…This is a cactus. It hurts when you touch the wrong parts. The end.

August 25, 2007: @Red Bull Flug Tag

There was a whole crap-load of people at the Red Bull Flug Tag even held in Austin a few years ago. I went with my sister and nephews to see some of the interesting flying creations that were on display. I have to say that very few of them actually flew. Several coasted but most just dropped straight down. It was very similar to when Wil E. Coyote runs off the edge of a cliff on accident and sort of hovers in mid air for a few seconds before plummeting to the ground. We sat across the water from the event but needed some trusty binoculars to see any of the details. Good times.

May 28, 2009. I took this photo in the field next to my office. KC likes to go explore the area every once in a while. There was a family of deer that lived there and KC would sniff out their trail. There was also a random assortment of crap to smell too (tires, a couch, a bed, some political signs, construction tape, plastic fencing, a pecan tree etc). Unfortunately the field is being taken over by mysterious machines. They have already leveled part of the field and put up a crude paddock of some sort. KC will miss her field if they take it away from her.

In lieu of new photographs I have decided to play a word game to determine the post of the day. It will re-inspire me and keep the blog rolling until I can get the camera to cooperate again. The word game works like this: I will go to my flickr photo page and type a word that comes to my head. If there are any photographs that are tagged with that word they will pop up and I will select one.

November 15, 2009. I stumbled upon this secluded spot by accident and out of frustration. I was planning on hiking around St. Edwards park to look for any evidence of my stuff (my car had been broken into there a few weeks prior). When I got to the park there was no place to park so I kept driving. I noticed a small turnout about a mile down so I pulled in and started the trek. I went upstream past an abandoned shed, through some trees, and down a trail and here I was. Sun was shining and some leaves were still on the trees. It was indeed a serene moment.
