Have I mentioned how hot it is in Texas right now? While I have built up some tolerance by way of sitting outside for 12 hours on the weekends at the market I will still never fully appreciate 104 degree weather.

I’m not really a fan of the color scheme of this photo but unfortunately I can’t redecorate KC and I’m pretty sure I’m not allowed to dye Andy’s fur blue. I was holding a cookie above my lense and for a calm 7 seconds they both sat there patiently waiting. Then ASKB batted KC over the head and bedlam broke out. Good times…

As I was rushing to leave work early (before 6pm) I got caught up with the rain drops and magic hour lighting in the field behind the office (I always seem to come back to that field). I ended up spending 20 minutes of pure bliss taking photos. I enjoyed taking the photos. I got wet and dirty but didn’t care. KC sat patiently waiting in the car (turned on with the AC blowing in her face) as I happily snapped away. The sun came and went in accordance to the cloud cover and I have to say that magic hour lighting is made all the more spectacular when there are storm clouds hovering nearby. Ahh bliss…

KC is such a patient, good, loving dog. It hurts me that sometimes I have to keep her up at the office past the usual 8 hours. But then I remind myself of the alternative – leaving her alone at the house. She gets loved on by some many people at work and has a lot of special Cate/KC time so I don’t think she’s really all that bothered by it. The fact that she doesn’t run directly to the car when we are leaving also speaks volumes of her state of doggy mind.

Working late has several advantages and disadvantages. The obvious disadvantage is that there is not much time left during the day to get much accomplished at the house (laundry, cleaning, laundry, cleaning, eating, sleeping – the usual). The advantages are a beautiful sky to greet me as I leave the office, quiet in the office, quiet in the parking lot, and a sense of true accomplishment.

I am slowly growing to like the car window vignette this photo has. Though entirely not intentional it adds something to the photo. I was taking a back road home from running errands and noticed this house through the trees. It was in the middle of a residential area full of large, ornate homes with a random horse farm here and there. The road itself did not provide a shoulder to pull into so I just stopped in the middle of the road. It was at the end of a curve so in my head I was calling myself an irresponsible idiot. Surely if a car drives around that curve it will smack the crap out of me and my Hyundai. I fumbled for my camera and realized my compact flash was buried at the bottom of my bag. with both eyes on the rear view mirror I frantically dug through the mountains of debris that filled my purse. Oh what a great idea it was to stuff all of the mail and receipts from the passenger seat into my bag. Also a great idea to leave loose bits of change floating around down there as well. If I had dug long enough I’m sure I could have come up with about $20 in change and the kitchen sink. I finally found my card and tried to shoot only to realize it was completely full. Damn. Format. Try again. It shoots I fail. Camera was set to manual from the night before. Eyes on the mirror, edge forward a little bit…Set to aperture priority, lean across the seat and snap. One shot. For the most part, I got the shot. The light was fading and I knew there was no place to turn around and try again. Content with my self vignetted shot I drove off into the sunset. The End.

Texas seems to be lacking for water these days. It has rained a few times this month but nothing of major, ground saturating intensity. I decided to create my own rainstorm within this photo.

I went to Pedernales Falls today to scope out some water, hike, and get some Cate time. It was worth the 4 hours I spent there. I wish I had been able to go swimming but the area I explored was against that fun activity. Oddly enough my favorite photos from that day are not of the falls or the water filled areas but of this corrugated tin barn that sat in the middle of a field. The sun was setting and rain clouds were overhead (got some rain in my hair) and it was just so peaceful and quiet that I stayed in this one spot for a good hour.

As you may have gathered… There is a field next to my office. Surprisingly it has yet to be developed and it grows wild. It is not a fancy field by any means. Nor is it lush. It is just a field [vacant lot]. Various types of trees, weeds, wildflowers, and political campaign signs grow there. During the day the field appears bland and dry. However, at sunrise and in the evening it glows. The light hits it just right and even the weeds seem beautiful. Until they poke me in the foot. They are not beautiful then.

KC and I stayed up at work until about 7 this evening. When we left the parking lot was empty (save for blogosphere man of the evening’s Scion) and the field was glowing with sunlight. Usually I make KC go straight to the car after exiting the building but tonight I let her go walkabout in the field. She was beside herself. So much so that she worked up quite a substantial amount of drool. It was foaming and hanging and altogether incredibly nasty. I cleaned her up for you blog world. I hope you appreciate what I had to do for you.
