This is a photograph that I’m painting over. It will end up hanging in a bakery in Austin as “art”. Now, I am having trouble with this particular piece because I have been staring at it for too long and I’m getting blurry around the edges of what I like and don’t like. I will not impart my judgment on you folks – I’d rather you decide for yourself. So here are a few more shots from the process. You can see the original image here. I have always loved this shot. The original was shot with a Digital Canon Rebel (one of the first released ones I think) and was all pure natural lighting. The tulip was in a vase that was placed in front of a colorful painting I had done specifically to be used as a background in photographs. The colors all just worked so wonderfully together and I was so pleased with the final photo. I also shot it in film and used it in my final portfolio for my color film class. This was about 7 years ago. I think I still have the painting somewhere in my parents attic. The tulip is dead.

I’ve always loved that photo. Great idea to put paint over it, and I like the swirls a lot. Did you paint the flower as well? I can’t tell from the small photo.
